SE2005204490 - Vísa fra Sundsberg
Visa fra Sundsberg is a young and pretty mare with particularly strong bloodlines, her breeding index (BLUP) being 127. I intend for her to become one of my two breeding mares in Norway, when she grows up. She is black with a star and is out of Vaka fra Österåker, a promising young breeding mare own by one of Sweden's best breeders Birgitta Ibert. Vignir Jónasson presented Vaka this year and she received 1. prize, only five years old, after having given birth to Visa. Vignir is training her and Vaka will be presented again next year. She is out of Von fra Vindheimum that is one of the very best breeding mares in Sweden today, all her first five offspring has been highly judged, and includes the well known stallion Filipi fra Österåker (total 8.52) that is Vaka's brother. Vaka's father is Mökkur fra Varmalæk, probably the most successful stallion outside Iceland. The mothers side of the pedigree, moreover, includes famous stallions such as Borgfjörð fra Hvanneyri, Hrafn fra Holtsmúla, Svalur fra Glæsibæ and Kolskeggur fra Flugumýri and a number of famous breeding mares; Kolbrún fra Sauðárkróki, Skeifa fra Kirkjubæ, Hrafnhetta fra Sauðárkróki, Svala fra Glæsibæ and Síða fra Sauðárkróki. Visa’s father, is Isar fra Keldudal, the highest judged 6 yrs old stallion outside Iceland and among the best of the breeding list for young stallions. He is truly a lowly horse, very willing but with a sweet character, great gates and very strong pedigree on both sides and I expect him to leave his marks on Swedish and European breeding in the future. It was a great moment for me to see Vignir present him and Vaka early this spring and I am very proud and thankful that Birgitta trusted me with one of her most beloved and promising young mares, Visa. She will get the very best attention and upbringing in Norway and I intend to let Vignir start her in October 2008 and eventually present her when time is ready (hopefully as a 4 year old in the spring 2009). Isar is out of the honours award winning Ísold fra Keldudal following a long line of remarkable breeding mares including both Hrund fra Kelduda and, Nös fra Stokkhólma. Isold is after Hrafn fra Holtsmúla and won honours award at this years Landsmot (06).Her daugther Hrund's first five offsprings all received first prize. Nös has given birth to eight (!) 1 prize winning offspring, becoming a breeding legend on Iceland. Isar's father Keilir fra Miðsitju is out of Krafla fra Sauðárkróki under Ófeigur fra Flugumýri and he won the Sleipnir cup at this years Landsmot (2006), topping the stallions breeding list. Behind Keilir we find a long list of excellent stallions; Ófeigur fra Flugumýri, Kolskeggur fra Flugumýri, Gustur fra Sauðárkróki and Sörli fra Sauðárkróki to mention a few, as well as the honours award winning breeding mares; Krafla fra Sauðárkróki, Perla fra Reykjum, Fluga fra Sauðárkróki and Síða fra Sauðárkróki. Visa is a strong minded young lady (that is needed to take the kind of training that is necessary to be presented successfully at young age) but with a sweet character. She is truly beautiful, long legged, well raised and with great movements-likely to become a five-gaiter. There is a lot of riding quality among her close relatives on both sides: Mökkur: 8.47, Hravn: 8.72, Hravnhetta: 8.92, Von: 8.65 and Svalur:8.53 preceding her mother and Keilir: 8.77, Krafla: 8.51, Gustur: 8.3, Perla: 8.33, Sörli: 8.28, Fluga: 8.68, Isold: 8.67 and Hravn: 8.72 behind her father, Isar fra Keldudal. The latter received 8.85 for riding qualities this year, still only six years old becoming the highest judged six year old stallion in the world at the time. And Vignir even “forgot” the walk when presenting him, pacing away….We will hear more from Isar already next year and if he stays healthy my guess is that he will represent Iceland in next years World championship with a good chance of taking home the trophy. I expect him to dominate Icelandic horse breeding outside Iceland the next decade or two in much the same way as Mökkur has done after Ylva (Hagander) brought him to Sweden as a young stallion almost 20 years ago.
