IS1999257040 - Vakning fra Ási
Sandra Marin was looking for a new competition horse after the tragic death of her own and she spotted the 1. prize winning Vakning fra Ási.. This 7 years old mare had exceptional gaits, pace being particularly impressive with 9 on the last breeding show. This should come as no surprise though, her father being the famous stallion Galsi fra Sauđárkróki, having received 9.8 for his pace, and her mother being the famous breeding mare Vaka fra Ási having received 9.5 for her pace! Since I am looking for “extreme” qualities in my breeding and it seemed like Vakning had a significant improvement potential (particularly trot, tölt and form /expression) we decided to join forces; I bought the horse. Sandra Marin train and compete with her until Landsmot 2008, then presenting Vakning in a breeding show and subsequently I use her for my breeding. I will look for a stallion that supports Vakning’s talent for pace at the same time introduces a somewhat lighter, long legged conformation…Not easy- the first coming into mind is the highest rated stallion Stáli fra Kjarri, with an overall score of 8.76 (including 9.5 for pace and 9 for tölt!). Since he is a Galsi son as well this would mean inbreeding-and I am reluctant to do that of obvious reasons (fertility++). So we’ll have to wait and see when summer 2008 is there… Vakning’s mother Vaka fra Ási is a honours award winning breeding mare with six 1. prize winning offspring and another four with a high 2. prize. She is the mother to several famous competition horses on Iceland as well; Röđull fra Ási I and Drottning fra Ási I to mention a few. Vaka is daughter of the well known stallion Baldur fra Syđri-Brekkum scoring 8.53 for riding skills including 9.5 for character and 8.5 for all gaits (tölt, trot, pace and gallop) as well as general impression. Vaka’s mother was the beautiful palomino mare Ljóska fra Ási I. Vakning’s father Galsi fra Sauđárkróki is a famous honours award winning stallion on Iceland, particularly known as a strong breeder of long, well raised and well built offspring with extreme riding talents, with particularly good pace. Being the father of the highest scoring Icelandic horse today, Stali fra Kjarri makes him even more popular. Galsi is son of the famous stallion Ófeigur fra Flugumýri, leaving his clear mark on Icelandic horse breeding, being heavily inbred –all his offspring inherits the dun gene and many of them his famous curved neck and extreme riding talents. Galsi’s mother is the beautiful and talented breeding mare Gnótt fra Sauđárkróki after Hervar fra Sauđárkróki and under Hrefna fra Sauđárkróki. Gnott is honours award winning and mother of five 1 prize winning offspring including the famous Galsi. She received her 1 prize at Landsmót Gaddstađaflötum in 1986, receiving 9.5 for her neck/winters/shoulders and 8.5 for pace. Hervar is father to a number of famous stallions; Otur Sauđárkróki, Trostan Kjartansstöđum, Kjarval fra Sauđárkróki and Kraflar fra Miđsitju to mention a few! Vakning’s grandmother Hrefna earned her 1 prize back in 73 and has famous honours award winning parents; Sörli fra Sauđárkróki and Fluga fra Sauđárkróki. So all in all Vakning’s father’s side of the pedigree is very strong and suggests that Vakning in addition to be a very promising competition horse could become a very valuable breeding mare in the future. So Svein Guđmundsson at Sauđárkróki has definitely left his marks on Vakning, and it will be very exciting to follow her and Sandra Marin in he competitions ahead and eventually see how she breeds. Big thanks to Sandra that will share her with me-and for putting a lot off effort into improving her gaits![]() ![]() ![]() |
