Selma fra Sauđárkróki is the Óđur (Óđur fra Brún) offspring I have been looking for. Unlike many of Óđur ‘s offspring she has a good character and is beautifully built. So hopefully she also has inherited some of Óđur‘s extreme riding talent. Her full brother Brjánn fra Sauđárkróki has, and he is a very promising young stallion with an impressive 1. prize already as 6 yrs old –so the combination of Óđur and Selma’s mother Sjöfn fra Sauđárkróki seems to work well. Selma is a beautiful, long legged, dun offspring of the two and has just been started. She looks promising with clear rhythm and good movements and speed and it looks like she will eventually develop into a five gaiter.
Selma’s father, Óđur fra Brún, is a very successful honours award winning stallion and son of the legendary Stígur fra Kjartansstöđum out of the famous breeding mare Terna fra Kirkjubć (mother to numerous great stallions like Töfri, Trostan, Tývar++). Stigur is after Náttfari fra Ytra-Dalsgerđi, with 10 for pace and one of the best stallions on Iceland ever and the most famous son of legendary Sörli fra Sauđárkróki. So the grandfather’s side goes all the way back to the famous Síđa fra Sauđárkróki. Grandmother, Terna adds Kirkjubć blood; i.e mixing two of the strongest blood lines on Iceland.
Óđur’s mother is the legendary breeding mare Ósk fra Brún, giving birth to seven 1. prize offspring. She certainly passes on her father Ófeigur fra Flugumýri’s extraordinary riding talent! Also Ósk’s mother, Hekla fra Árgerđi, was very talented receiving 8.57 for her riding abilities including 9 for pace and 8.5 for tölt. It is a big loss that she only got one offspring, Ösk. Selma’s dun colour is from Ofeigur that is homozygous for this colour because of heavy inbreeding.
Selma’s mother Sjöfn fra Sauđárkróki, is one of Gudmundur’s most presious breeding mares. He showed her after only 2 months training as a 4 yrs old and never got around to show her again to earn her the marks she deserved because she turned out to become such a good breeder. First Grímnir Sauđárkróki that was immediately sold to Switzerland and became a famous competition horse there, then Brjánn fra Sauđárkróki that is now one of their most talented stallions-and widely used despite his young age –and so forth. Sjöfn is after legendary Hervar fra Sauđárkróki and under the beautiful chesnut Hravn daughter Snót fra Sauđárkróki. Behind these two is famous breeding mares like Hervör and Síđa fra Sauđárkróki.
Selma is now in training by Gunnar Svan Ágústsson. We plan to have Siggi Matt show her this coming summer and depending on her talent and the judgement we will either continue the training trying to qualify her for Landsmot 2008 or put her directly into breeding. First stallion is already booked and is Stali fra Kjarri. We expect a lot from Selma that I share with my breeding companion Hannes Sigurjonsson. Thanks to Eline and Jon at Hofi for their assistance in finding and evaluating Selma and Gudmundur that trust us to buy her and develop her further.
