Þula is a three years old orri daughter just started but not yet ridden.
She is particularly nice looking with an excellent neck (orri’s
offspring tend to get rather short and thick necks after their father)
and beautiful head and she moves well. Þula has a high breding index (118) suggesting a strong pedigree. She is out of the beautiful silver dapple 1. prize winning breeding mare Þruma fra Sælukoti, thus there is a 50% chance that Þula is a carrier of the silver dapple gene. To find this out, I intend to breed her to a stallion that is homozygeous for black (EE)-perhaps Adam fra Ásmundarstöðum or Þytur frá Neðra-Seli. Þruma is well built with a particularly good neck, slim and set high (8.5) and good tölt (8.5) that should work well with Orri. Þruma’s father, the handsome silver dapple stallion Þrymur fra Geirshlíð, is after the famous stallion Stígur fra Kjartansstöðum and son of legendary Náttfari fra Ytra-Dalsgerði and grandson of Sörli fra Sauðárkróki that needs no further introduction. Þruma’s mother Elding is after the 1 prize stallion Gjafar fra Reykjavík and grandson of famous Feykir fra Hafsteinsstöðum. Both Sörli, Nattfari and Stigur are strong breeders of pace (Nattfari receiving 10 for pace in 1978), thus Þula’s mother might bring some pace to her offspring in addition to tölt from her father Orri, suggesting that she will eventually become a five-gaiter- but only time will show.
Þula’s father is the legendary Orri fra Þúfu with numerous famous offspring -in the hundreds! Orri descends from a number of honours award winning stallions and mares; Otur Sauðárkróki, Hervar fra Sauðárkróki, Hrafnkatla fra Sauðárkróki, Hervör fra Sauðárkróki, Sörli fra Sauðárkróki, Síða fra Sauðárkróki, Adam fra Meðalfelli, Hrafn fra Holtsmúla and is together with Hravn the most influential stallion on Iceland in modern times, and still active.
Orri shows great genetic stability giving offspring that are average in
size, expressive, with rather coarse head, a raised but thick neck,
wonderful shoulders and winters and uniquely pretty mane and tail and
magnificent hooves in all ways.
Þula will be started together with my Platina by Erlingur in October,
and I do look forward to hear his evaluation of their riding talent and
see the results of his training. Hopefully, they will both be ready to
be shown during spring
