Platina has an extraordinary colour and is the only silver dapple offspring after the famous stallion Orri fra Þúfu (out of 942!). Platina has an amazing silvergrey mane and tail and is tall for her age (now two and a half yrs old). She is under Píla fra Stykkishólmi that is black with a red sheen and inherited the yellow gene from her mother, the 1. prize winning palmino mare Gletta fra Stykkishólmi. The silver dapple gene is also inherited from her mother’s side, giving birth to five silver dapple offspring. Pila's father and Platinas grandfather is the honours award winning Ófeigur fra Hvanneyri that received 9 for tölt and 9.5 for pace and 8.55 overall only six years old. Platina’s father Orri, received 8.61 for riding skills as a four-gaiter with 9.5 for tölt at five years of age and won 1. prize already the year before; only four years old. He is the most successful stallion on Iceland today with more than 100 1. prize winning offspring so far. Thus, there should be a lot of riding qualities in Platina, that hopefully also will be passed on to her offspring’s. Already from the beginning Platina showed great movements and was regarded the most talented of Pila’s offspring’s so far. She is well raised and with great mane and tale like her father. We do not know yet if she will become a four or a five-gaiter. Orri’s offspring are mostly fabulous four-gaiters but some even show great pace, depending on the mother. Platina’s mother, Pila, received 8.09 for riding abilities and 8.5 for pace. Both her parents are 1. prizes winning horses that adds a lot of riding ability (receiving 8.43 and 8.8 for riding, including a particularly impressive pace; 9.5 and 9 for pace respectively). So, it is likely that this talent for pace is passed on to Platina and that she eventually becomes a five-gaiter, time will show.
Platina has a strong pedigree on both her mother and fathers side. Her father Orri descends from a number of honours award winning stallions and mares; Otur Sauðárkróki, Hervar fra Sauðárkróki, Hrafnkatla fra Sauðárkróki, Hervör fra Sauðárkróki, Sörli fra Sauðárkróki, Síða fra Sauðárkróki, Adam fra Meðalfelli, Hrafn fra Holtsmúla and is an outstanding stallion. Her mother, Pila, receiving a good 2 prize overall (7.88) is descending from the famous and honours award winning breeding mare Skeifa fra Kirkjubæ.
Orri shows great genetic stability giving offspring that are average in size, expressive, with rather coarse head, a raised but rather thick neck, wonderful shoulders and winters and uniquely pretty mane and tail and magnificent hooves in all ways. His offspring are exceptionally good four-gaiters, but some have good pace. They have magnificent gallop, fast, good willingness, courageous character and are impressive under saddle. And they develop early and show quality very soon. This all makes Orri an excellent breeding horse and therefore I have recently used a promising son of his, Vilmundur fra Feti, on my breeding mare Hrund fra Arbæ as well.
I am thankful to Susanne Sjöström for letting me buy Platina and to Siggi and Lisbet at Holtsmula where she was born and gets the very best care. They furthermore introduced me to Olil Amble that has taken on starting her (next October 2007), and if she is a “true Orri daughter” she will be presented by Olil already the following spring (2008). Hopefully, she will qualify to Landsmot 2008, competing in the four year class. After a putative competing career is over she will be kept on Iceland for breeding, getting access to their many excellent stallions. Having both a silver dapple and yellow gene she is likely to receive many colourful offspring’s in the future. She has a lot of will combined with a really sweet character and I do look forward to follow her a lot.
Platina, being a Orri daughter, is mixing Sauðárkrókir and Hravn fra Holtsmula that unites both Svaðastaðir and Hornafjörður blood lines. Her mother adds Kirkjubær blood, this combination haven proven to be very successful.\
