Litla-Mari fra Håkansgården is the youngest of four full sisters out of the black and elegant five gaited mare Heiddís fra Fällan (1 pr. total: 8.27 , conformation: 8.05, riding: 8.42) under three time World Champion and honours award winning stallion Askur från Håkansgården (total: 8.64, conformation: 8.29, riding: 8.87). All the four sisters are black and have inherited the yellow gene from Askur, his mother being a palomino, getting a beautiful red shining colour during summertime. This also means that Litla-Mari may get both black, red, brown and palomino offspring depending on the stallion used. Litla-Mari is a tall, long legged and determined young lady that enjoys her second year of life at Torstad gård in Asker (www.torstad-.no) with plenty of space and lot of play mates. She has inherited her father’s nice character, is strong willed (both mother and father are very willing) with what appears to become five open gaits-moving very elegantly and having a lot of energy. Her elder sisters also looks great. Litla-Mari’s mother, Heiddis, is after the honours award winning stallion Svalur fra Glæsibæ with Freyr fra Flugumýri , Hrafn fra Holtsmúla , Kolskeggur fra Flugumýri and Svala fra Glæsibæ in the close family.
Askur, Litla Mari’s father, is out of the beautiful palomino Ljósbrá fra Ásgeirsbrekku directly descending from two of Icelands most renown breeding mares; Hrund fra Keldudal (her first five offspring receiving 1. prize) and Nös fra Stokkhólma (eight 1. pr offspring !) and the most famous stallion Hrafn fra Holtsmúla. Askur’s father Kveikur fra Miðsitju is another honours award winning stallion. Kveikur, black and handsome like Hravn, is out of the famous breeding mare Perla fra Reykjum and brother to Krafla fra Sauðárkróki, both honours award winning and famous breeding mares. So, merely looking at Askur’s pedigree, it should come as no surprise that he has become the first stallion born outside Iceland (mother import) to top the overall breeding list and a very successful competitor, winning the WC three times. His close family include more than ten 1. prize winning horses including a number of honours award winning horses; Kveikur fra Miðsitju, Gustur fra Sauðárkróki, Sörli fra Sauðárkróki, Fluga fra Sauðárkróki, Síða fra Sauðárkróki and Hrafn fra Holtsmúla.
I intend for Litla-Mari to become one of my two breeding mares in Norway, the other being Visa fra Sundsberg of the same age (1.5 yrs). Hopefully, Vignir Jónasson previous World Champion, now living in Sweden, will start and subsequently present them both. I regard him as one of the best (if not the best) riders and trainers of Icelandic horses today-and not the least he is a very nice person that truly loves and takes excellent care of his horses.
