Katla is a six years old orri daughter receiving a 2 prize as 4 yrs old on Iceland. She received 9 for gallop, indicative of good speed in tölt and other gaits when ready.
Katla was bred by Siggi and Lisbeth at Holtsmula and brought to Sweden in 2006. She is black and particularly nice looking (8.16 for confirmation) with an excellent neck
(orri’s offspring tend to get rather short and thick necks after their father) and beautiful head and she moves well. Tölt is the best gait with naturally high knee lifts and
roomy movements. She just needs strength to carry trough her big movements in higher speed. Pace is also coming along, still a bit uneven and 4-beat but improves
along with more strength. With the right training I do believe she could become a 1 class mare this coming summer-and with her strong character combined with a lot
of willingness I decided to buy her and hopefully include her as one of my three breeding mares outside Iceland (along with Visa and Litla Mari). 

Katla has a high breding index (115) suggesting a strong pedigree. She is out of Vera fra Holtsmúla, a 1. prize winning breeding mare at Holtsmúla with a very strong 
riding talent (8.3, including 8.5 for both tölt and pace). She is after the famous stallion Toppur fra Eyjólfsstöðum with a very strong confirmation (8.53 with 9 for proportions) 
and 8.8 for tölt. He is after the most influencial stallion on Iceland through all times Hravn fra Holtsmúla and the superb breeding mare Sera Eyjólfsstöðum, 1 prize 
winning with 8.53 for riding abilities! Behind her is nemerous 1 class winning horses so there is no surprise to me that Toppur became such a strong stallion. Veras 
mother Glóð fra Bergstöðum was a talented 4 gaited chesnut mare that received 7.52 only 4 yrs old.  

Katla’s father is the legendary Orri fra Þúfu with is by far the strongest breeder still active with more that 100 1 prize offspring. Many of his sons are already among 
the strongest and most popular stallions today (Sær, Garri, Gari …). Orri  descends from a number of honours award winning stallions and mares; Otur Sauðárkróki, 
Hervar fra Sauðárkróki, Hrafnkatla fra Sauðárkróki, Hervör fra Sauðárkróki, Sörli fra Sauðárkróki, Síða fra Sauðárkróki, Adam fra Meðalfelli, Hrafn fra Holtsmúla.. 

Orri shows great genetic stability giving offspring that have a wonderful character, positive and quick learners. They are average in size, expressive, with rather coarse
head, a raised but thick neck, wonderful shoulders and winters and uniquely pretty mane and tail and magnificent hooves in all ways. His offspring are exceptionally
good four-gaiters, but some have good pace. They have magnificent gallop, fast, good willingness, courageous character and impressive under saddle. And they
develop early and show quality very soon. This all makes Orri an excellent breeding horse and therefore I have a lot of Orri bloodline in my breeding; Álaborg fra Feti
that I share with Brynjar  is perhaps one of the most talented Orri offspring out there, receiving 8.25 as 4-gaiter only four year old. I already have handsome black
stallion prospect after her with the black pinto  Frakki fra Feti. My Platina fra Holtsmula is the only silver dapple Orri daughter and has just being started at
Langholt by Vidja and Elli and has natural tölt and good knee lift, Þula fra Nedra Seli is my third Orri daughter on Iceland after a silver dapple first prize winning
Stigur daughter.  In addition my young stallion prospect now being started by Vignir  Hugur fra Oren  is after the talented four gaited Orri son Freyr fra Holtsmula. 

 So I have high hopes for Katla and thank Hinni (Hinrik Sigurdsson) for letting me buy her and for training her this winter and showing her in Mai. Our common goal
is to get her a good 1 prize and then she will be put into breeding.
