Independently, Birgitta (Ibert) and I spotted Brana fra Blesastöðum 1 and what was then more naturally than to share her -when Magnús and Hólmfríður eventually agreed to sell her. She is a true beauty; I have never seen anything like her! Time will show, however, how she eventually will turn out being only five months at present. Brana is well raised, long legged and slim, just the way we would like our horses to be-and like most of the beautiful horses they have bred at Blesastöðum. We are very thankful to Magnús and Hólmfríður for being willing to sell her to us and we will take very good care of her!

Brana is out of a young promising breeding mare called Röst fra Hrafnkelsstöðum 1. She received 2. prize only five years old as a four-gaiter. She is out of one of the most popular and successful stallions on Iceland at the moment, the honours award winning  Óður fra Brún, receiving 8.9 for riding abilities at Kjalarnesþingi in 1996, including 9.7 for pace and 9 for tölt, trot, temperament and general impression! Odur is after the honours award winning stallion Stígur fra Kjartansstöðum out of the famous and honours award winning breeding mare Ósk fra Brún, having produced seven 1pr. winning offspring all with exceptional riding qualities, probably mostly inherited from her father Ofeigur. Brana’s grandfather Stigur is after the legendary stallion Náttfari fra Ytra-Dalsgerði, receiving 10 for pace back in 78 and 9.08 overall for riding skills! Brana’s grandmother and mother of Stigur is the legendary Terna fra Kirkjubæ, having produced five 1. pr. offspring (and three 2.pr over 7.90) , including many famous stallions like Töfri, Trostan, Tyvar and Huginn in addition to Stigur!  

Brana’s fathers side of the pedigree is equally strong, her father being this years (2006) Sleipnir cup winning stallion Keilir fra Miðsitju.  Sleipnir cup is won by the most influential stallion during a Landsmot year also taking into account his offspring. Keilir is out of the famous breeding mare Krafla fra Sauðárkróki and after the famous stallion Ófeigur fra Flugumýri that received honours awards in 1990. Other famous stallions in the close pedigree are Kolskeggur fra Flugumýri (father of Ofeigur), Gustur fra Sauðárkróki and  Sörli fra Sauðárkróki with an equally impressive line of excellent breeding mares behind him; Perla fra Reykjum Fluga fra Sauðárkróki and Síða fra Sauðárkróki . 

Thus, Brana’s father Keilir represent the best of the Sauðárkrókir and Hornafjörður lines and her mother Röst combine the best out of  Sauðárkrókir and Kirkjubær lines all starting with the famous and heavily in-bred Svaðastaðir mare Ragnars-Brúnka fra Saudakroki 2719.
