Álaborg came third at Landsmot 2004 with a very high score for a four
year old (8.25). She was admired for her big, roomy movement and was very
expressive under rider, tall and elegant. She came as no surprise
though, one of the many qualities with her father, the famous stallion
Orri fra Þúfu,
is that his offspring show talent very early. An she is out of the
famous breeding mare
Ísafold fra Sigríðarstöðum
, one of the three fabulous breeding mares that has laid the
foundation for the breeding at Fet. Brynjar’s famous stallions
Ludvig fra Feti (8.29) and Arni Geir fra Feti (8.23) are full
brothers of Álaborg, and the 1 prize winning mares Brun fra
Feti,
Fantasia fra Feti and Þerna fra Feti are her full sisters.
Thus this combination of Orri and Isafold certainly works well and has
produced a number of amazing offspring. This also strongly suggests that
Alaborg will become an important breeding mare. Her first two offspring
including Hamborg fra Feti looks very promising. I am thus
thankful that Brynjar let me buy half of Aalaborg, allowing me to breed
from her every second year, still staying at Fet. I expect my first
offspring the coming spring after Frakki fra Feti, a young
incredibly talented black pinto four gaiter after the Vigdis son
Fontur fra Feti out of the black pinto mare Drifa fra Feti.
Orri fra Þúfu descends from a number of honours award winning stallions and mares; Otur Sauðárkróki, Hervar fra Sauðárkróki, Hrafnkatla fra Sauðárkróki, Hervör fra Sauðárkróki, Sörli fra Sauðárkróki, Síða fra Sauðárkróki, Adam fra Meðalfelli, Hrafn fra Holtsmúla and is together with Hravn the most influential stallion on Iceland in modern times, and he is still active.
Orri shows great genetic stability giving offspring that are average in size, expressive, with rather coarse head, a raised powerful neck, wonderful shoulders and winters and uniquely pretty mane and tail and magnificent hooves in all ways. His offspring are exceptionally good four-gaiters, but some have good pace as well. They have magnificent gallop, fast, good willingness, courageous character and impressive under saddle. And they develop early and show quality very soon. This all makes Orri an excellent breeding horse and therefore I have a lot of Orri bloodline in my breeding; My Platina fra Holtsmula being an Orri daughter, my Hrund fra Arbæ was bred with the Orri son Vilmundur fra Feti, and my young stallion Hugur is after the talented four gaiter Orri son Freyr fra Holtsmula.
Alaborg, being a tall and rather lightly built Orri daughter, is mixing Sauðárkrókir and Hravn fra Holtsmula that unites both Svaðastaðir and Hornafjörður blood lines. Isafold also descends from Hrafn fra Holtsmúla.
